Mzuzu University (Mzuni) has budgeted K200 million for the construction of their TNM Super League team’s stadium in Mzuzu.

Mzuzu University (Mzuni) has budgeted K200 million for the construction of their TNM Super League team’s stadium in Mzuzu. An inside source said the money is part of the institution’s allocation in the 2017/2018 budget which will carter for the project’s first phase. Mzuni FC Chairperson, Albert Harawa, hatched the project in 2015 but it eventually hit a snag due to lack of money. After retaining the chairmanship in March, Harawa pledged to resuscitate the stadium dream. “We need to have our own football stadium. It is necessary that a fully-fledged university should have such a facility. We should be able to host big games once we have such a facility. “Our vision is that we should be able to host even Super League games right here at our campus,” he said in March. Harawa on Wednesday confirmed about the allocated funds. He, however, could not reveal more details about the project. “The money is there, yes, but my fear is that if it gets into the public domain, the institution might consider reversing its decision,” he said in a brief response. Mzuni FC, just like most Super League teams, do not own stadiums. Mzuni FC uses Mzuzu Stadium as its home ground alongside Moyale Barracks FC and Chitipa United. Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Acting Chairperson, Felix Msiska, said although he is not aware of the project, it is important for every team to own a stadium.
