Nomads rise from the dead to haunt Moyale

.Trophy specialists Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Saturday, May, 27, 2017 pulled the biggest upset in the Airtel Top 8 Cup competion as they fought from two goals down to beat Moyale Barracks 3-2 in a dramatic semifinal encounter at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. The Nomads were as good as dead nine minutes to the break, when Moyale striker Dan Katunga deflected a poorly taken strike from goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa into the net to give the Lions’ of Kaning’ina a two goal advantage. This was just a few minutes after Boyboy Chima had given the soldiers the lead from a set-piece. In what could be the turning point from the Nomads, youthful striker Khumbo Ng’ambi reduced the arrears on the dot of half-time after connecting a cross from Jabulani Linje. Four minutes after resumption, Ng’ambi leveled the scores for Wanderers with a slight touch of a pin-point cross from captain Francis Mlimbika. Ng’ambi was on the scene again midway into the second half, ramming the ball home from close range after the Nomads had split the soldier’s defence. The rest of the game saw the Nomads applying all tactics from the book to run down the clock. Moyale assistant coach Wilson Mkandawire conceded defeat, lamenting his side’s failure to preserve the 2-0 lead up to half-time. “We relaxed a bit after taking the two-goal lead and allowed Wanderers to get a goal just before half-time. “Had we preserved our two-goal first half lead, Wanderers would not have come back into the game,” said Mkandawire. Wanderers’ veteran mentor Yasin Osman saluted his charges for showing character to reverse the two-goal deficit. “Its a good feeling to come back from two-goals down and win the game. This does not happen more often and it just shows the boys are committed to winning games,” said Osman.
